Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize 2012
The language focus for this year’s Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize will be Chinese. The winner’s name will be announced in October 2012, and he or she will receive £1000 and a selection of Harvill Secker titles. The winner will also participate in the BCLT mentorship scheme, working with Nicky Harman, and the winner will take part in the Crossing Border festival in November 2012.
Entrants will be asked to translate the short story The Wig by Han Dong, and the judges will be Briony Everroad (Editor, Harvill Secker), author Tash Aw and translator Nicky Harman. The prize is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 34, with no restriction on country of residence, and the deadline for entries is 27 July 2012.
The Joseph Brodsky/Stephen Spender Prize 2012
Judged by Sasha Dugdale, Catriona Kelly and Glyn Maxwell, this new prize celebrates the long friendship between Joseph Brodsky and Stephen Spender, as well as the rich tradition of Russian poetry. The prizes are: £1,500 (first), £1,000 (second) and £500 (third). The deadline is 31 August 2012 and the competition is open to entrants wordwide.
2011 Translation Prizes
The 2011 Translation Prizes, administered by the Society of Authors, were presented by by Sir Peter Stothard, Editor of the Times Literary Supplement, at the Sebald Lecture on 6 February 2012
John Dryden Translation Competition
Sponsored jointly by the British Comparative Literature Association and the British Centre for Literary Translation. Prizes are awarded for the best unpublished literary translations from any language into English.

Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize
An annual prize for a new book-length translation of poetry or prose from a modern European language.
The European Union Prize for Literature
The European Union Prize for Literature showcases the creativity and diversity of Europe’s contemporary literature. Over a 3 year cycle, national juries in each of the 35 countries participating in the EU Culture Programme nominate the work of an emerging talent. In 2011 it is the turn of Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Malta, Montenegro, Serbia, the Netherlands, Turkey and the United Kingdom to select their national winners.
