The Translation Research Group originally came together in 1993, when Jean Boase-Beier established UEA’s MA in Literary Translation with Professors W.G. Sebald, Clive Scott and Janet Garton. Its ethos was to combine research with the writing of translations. The TRG members are currently Prof Duncan Large, Dr Cecilia Rossi, Dr Thomas Boll and Dr Jo Catling.
TRG members lecture, write and offer workshops on such subjects as the importance of translating style, the hidden effects of gender, or the translation of LGBT characters in fiction. They also run a PhD programme, from which around 70 students have graduated. TRG members have received grants and awards for their translations and research.
