Training the Trainer

In 2018, we trialled our first Training the Trainer workshop strand and we are happy to announce that this opportunity is now available to apply for at the 2019 Summer School (21-27 July 2019).

This workshop strand is for experienced literary translators that have published work and would like to receive some training in leading literary translation workshops. 4-6 places are available on this workshop strand. If you are successful in gaining a place, you will spend the summer school week shadowing our experienced workshop leaders, including Daniel Hahn, Shaun Whiteside and Anne McLean. As well as shadowing the workshop leaders, you will have plenty of time to ask them questions about the process. We will also be running two dedicated workshops for the Training the Trainer cohort. These workshops, with Dr Cecilia Rossi (UEA) and another tutor (TBC) will address specific techniques, ideas and challenges when leading literary translation workshops.

A draft programme for the week can be downloaded now.

The same residential and non-residential packages apply for the Training the Trainer programme. £700 residential and £400 non-residential.

To apply for the Training the Trainer workshop strand at the 2019 Summer School you must download and complete an application form (PDF) or the Word Version of the application form and email your completed application form to with the supporting information:

We are always happy to provide feedback on applications.
