BCLT Literary Translation Workshop:
Translating Children’s Illustrated Non-Fiction Books with Josephine Murray
Online
Wednesday 14 October – 5.30-7pm,
What effect do illustrations and layout have on the translation process? How do style, ethics and research feature in the translation of non-fiction? In this workshop Josephine will take us through creative exercises based on Myths, Cities and Nature by Manon Bucciarelli (Harper Collins, 2026 and 2025) to explore the translation of illustrated non-fiction children's books.
Josephine Murray is a graduate of the UEA MA in Literary Translation and a French to English literary translator specialising in children’s literature and culinary texts. Alongside this she is an award-nominated freelance journalist writing about a variety of subjects for national magazines. She has taught French, German and Spanish in secondary schools, and previously worked as a cook.
Her translation work includes three illustrated children’s non-fiction books by Manon Bucciarelli for Harper Collins; Nature, Cities and Myths and, with Miranda Richmond Mouillot, Anne-Sophie Pic’s food memoir/manifesto Suffusion for Hachette.
